More on Greger’s Background
Greger quickly deviated from the image of the classic computer geek of 1984 playing games. Observing computer adoption (or lack thereof) in Norway’s largest hardware chain store mid-eighties, he quickly gained interest into the softer, people-aspects of software products. This lead to both a Master’s degree in computer science and a psychology major in group dynamics. A formative engagement at Statoil (the Norwegian state-owned oil company) as part of his thesis work where he worked on how web and 3D technologies could improve offshore operations led him to take an interest in the business aspects of technology products. These three angles have since followed him in his career: deep technical insights coupled with an understanding of people and how to operate successful businesses.
His passion for startups and scaleups was fueled by a stay in Silicon Valley late 90s where he worked at SRI International seeing up close the passion and energy in the dotcom boom with prospective founders, startups, large enterprises, and academia as participants. Meeting and working with Douglas Engelbart for a short period led to a life-long passion for innovation, product development, and leadership.
Having been based in Oslo, Norway, most of his career, Greger has been fortunate to have had global roles at several of the Norwegian tech companies with global success, the most recent as SVP of Engineering at Cognite, a Norwegian unicorn backed by Aker, Accel, TCV, and Aramco.
Staying technical includes a keen interest in staying updated on technology and be hands-on, also in code with Python, React, Flutter/Dart, and Kotlin as typical tools. As an executive, Greger’s leadership style is based on trust in competent people who get freedom and accountability with a clear expectation that everybody looks across the entire organization and focuses on delivering value to the customers.
